The Eternal Promise of Jam Tomorrow

The cake may be a lie but we are TOTALLY getting jam tomorrow.

The cake may be a lie but we are TOTALLY getting jam tomorrow.

If we vote yes we will lose all the ship building jobs on the Clyde. If we vote yes it will cost us a ton of money. If we vote yes Scottish industry will come crashing down. If we vote yes we will be invaded by North Koreans over the North Pole On jet ski wielding polar bears with Alex Salmond leading the charge. BUT if we vote no we will DEFINITELY get more powers for Scotland. Hang on I think I’ve heard this one before…

Can you count how many things Thatcher devolved to the Scotland? I only got to one - Poll Tax

Actually now that I think about it all these scare stories about job losses etc sound awfully familiar too…

Which is incredibly ironic given that whats happened over the last 35 years…

Such job protecion. So union. Wow.

In regards to the Scottish Labour promise for further devolution if we vote no. The only promised powers are to be more responsible in raising our own taxes, not getting more of the tax levers to implement change. Even beside that the problem with all of these promises from Labour and Conservatives is of course that the British parties don’t need to listen to their Scottish offices. Indeed Ian Davidson would like to strip so many powers off of Scotland that ‘the Scottish Government may as well meet twice a week above a pub for all they will have to talk about’ and would rather bayonet the wounded than consolidate more powers into a Scottish Parliament. They could promise the earth and deliver nothing.

The SNP’s track record however is not nearly so tarnished as mentioned in the previous post, 67 of their 72 previous manifesto promises enacted. Which I guess is really why I find it so galling when the Scottish Labour C Team accuse the SNP of Jam Tomorrow when they can’t even decide on which carrot they want to offer us to vote no (link)

Don’t even get me started on this man.
